All of us receive promotional messages via various instant messengers like WhatsApp, Hike, WeChat, IMO or Facebook Messenger etc every day. Some of these have free gifts, others offer recharge and mobile balance top-up. Here is one story about such messages. We click on the links in these messages without verifying the source, simply relying upon the sender’s identity. The links in these messages can host malicious software that once downloaded on the phone, can cause serious issues, including Identity Theft. This was displayed by an ethical hacker on live television.

Please make sure that you do not click on any link in a message that has lucrative offers. Go to the website of the company directly or search for the offer online. All companies that run promotional offers have them on their websites or promote it online via other mediums. Also use a good Mobile Antivirus if possible.
